In Episode 2 of In/Spectre Season 2, we meet Masayuki, a young man who gets lost during a trip in the snow with some friends.

Masayuki is saved by Yuki Onna (snow woman in Japanese), a type of yokai that's very well-known in Japanese folklore.

To his surprise, his new friend isn't exactly like the folktales he's heard; she's actually playful, and fun to be around.

Ten years later, Masayuki hits rock bottom. His wife has cheated on him with his colleague, resulting in a messy divorce. Masayuki has now left his job and lives a rather purposeless life, trying to recover from the incident.

Yuki Onna, who likes the human world, shows up and they reignite their friendship. She often visits him at his house and they eat together.

It's clear that Yuki Onna is falling in love with Masayuki. She has even sought advice from Kotoko, who told her that it's ok to start a relationship with Masayuki if they don't have children.

While Masayuki doesn't seem ready to start a new relationship -- and he'd probably be apprehensive about doing so with a yokai anyway -- he's grateful for Yuki Onna's company.

But things are about to get complicated really fast, as Masayuki's ex-wife gets murdered and he's the prime suspect.

Unfortunately, the only person who can vouch for his innocence is Yuki Onna, a yokai. Unable to help him, she asks for Kuro and Kotoko's assistance.
