Incredibles 2 Director Brad Bird on Why He Doesn't Want an Incredibles Spin-off

Incredibles 2 was a worthwhile follow up to the first movie, though it wasn't the show-stealing Pixar sequel that many fans wanted it to be. Still, it did introduce a number of new characters and showed that the Parr family didn't have to age for a good story (though a time skip would be great Pixar). After a short focused on Edna Mode and Jack-Jack was released, fans have been wondering about the franchise's future and what comes next.

Unfortunately, those hoping that we would get a spin-off film set in the same universe are about to be disappointed as director Brad Bird told IGN that he has no interest in making one.

The reason Bird doesn't want a spin-off is actually pretty cool; he thinks Hollywood is recycling too many old ideas and we don't have enough new ones. While he does admit that some of the characters from Incredibles 2 could have their own movie, Bird himself will not endorse it. Bird wants his next movie to have a catchy headline from news outlets like "Brad Bird has a new idea," which is pretty amusing.

Considering how marketable superhero movies have been in recent years, an eventual spin-off for The Incredibles wouldn't be too surprising. While Bird might not want one, he has to face the facts that Disney and Pixar own this franchise now. Maybe they'll respect his word and not touch it but the company does love money.

Incredibles 2 is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
