Idris Elba Denies That He’s Going To Be The Next James Bond

There was so much excitement when word came out earlier this month that award-winning English actor Idris Elba was the top candidate for the role of James Bond.

Daniel Craig is set to take off his suit as agent 007 once he finishes Bond 25, and Elba who's played Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a fan-favorite contender for the role. However, despite the excitement over seeing Elba become Hollywood's very first Black James Bond, the Thor: Ragnarok star has refuted the rumors, saying that he won't be playing the role.

Elba just recently spoke with Good Morning Britain at an event for his upcoming directorial project Yardie, and there the actor was asked whether not he would be the next James Bond.

Walking away from the publication, the actor gave a quick but definite response, telling them "No."

Of course, while the news might come off as a disappointment to many, it's also likely that the actor could be trying to keep coy about the probability of him becoming the next bond. It's possible that Universal is still trying to work out a negotiation, and Elba wouldn't want to feed the fire of speculation before making sure that the deal pushes through.

Besides, the studio is still busy dealing with Bond 25's production shakeup after Danny Boyle decided to leave out the project because of creative differences.

Bond 25 is set to release on November 2019.
