It is unknown yet why Marvel and Disney decided to show one of the episodes of I Am Groot in theaters early, but it is still good news nonetheless for the people who might be interested in the series and is willing to go to El Capitan Theatre to check out the episode on the big screen.

This move is also in alignment with some of the past Disney releases, especially in animated films, where a short film would accompany the proper movie during the screening as a bonus material while playing the advertisements and trailers before the movie starts.

It remains to be seen whether the release will be extended or it's just a one-time event for Marvel and Disney as their way to promote the series and give fans a glimpse of the upcoming animated shorts as well as a palette cleanser from all the films and TV shows that Marvel has released.
