About Hunter x Hunter
For the uninitiated, Hunter x Hunter is a shonen manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. It's been serialized by Shonen Jump since 1998, but went on hiatus twenty years later, in 2018, counting 36 volumes and 390 chapters.
Hunter x Hunters unfolds in a work where Hunters are gifted individuals tasked with fighting dangerous monsters and locating precious artifacts.
Story-wise, Hunter x Hunter follows Gon Freecss, a young boy who aims to pass the Hunter exam. In doing so, he hopes to find his missing father, who was also a Hunter, as well as understand what it was about the life of a Hunter that made his father leave him.
To do so, however, he must take the Hunter Examination, a prestigious and extremely difficult process that handicaps many applicants and kills many others.
During the exam, Gon befriends Leorio Paladiknight, Kurapika, and Killua Zoldyck, who all want to become Hunters for their own different reasons, but they decide to stick together and help each other in the hard fight ahead.

Hunter x Hunter: Who Passes and Fails the Hunter Exam?
Gon might have been outmatched but his unwillingness to give up made him the first to pass the Hunter exam. Gon's friends, Kurapika and Leorio, also pass.

As Gon is knocked out and does not wake until after the exam, he only later finds out that two contestants failed; Bodoro, and Gon's friend Killua.
The latter was manipulated by his brother into murdering Bodoro, and thus failed the exam and returned home. He and Gon reunite in the next arc.
