Hunger Games was ‘Double-Edged Sword’ for Josh Hutcherson

There is little doubt that actors aspire to land a big role in a major franchise. However, it looks like Josh Hutcherson realized a little too late that being a part of The Hunger Games film series wasn't what he really wanted in the first place.

Hutcherson recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly where he reflected on all of his memorable movie roles and not surprisingly, Hunger Games came up. Interestingly, the Zathura: A Space Adventure star stated that it was a life-changing experience for him.

"It was worlds apart from anything I have ever experienced. It's like a double-edged sword," Hutcherson stated. He then added that fame wasn't exactly something he was aiming for when he chose his career.

"Obviously the benefit of having more projects come your way is great. But when I set out to become an actor at 8, being famous and being recognized was not on my radar. I just wanted to make movies. That naiveté followed me until The Hunger Games slapped me in the face," Hutcherson said.

The franchise might be behind him now but it was an experience that made him more careful about the projects he chooses.

"It's hard for anybody to digest, especially being a kid from Kentucky. It made me realize the kind of actor I wanted to be. The idea of doing big, big projects that make you even more well-known doesn't sound as appetizing. If that opportunity came up again, I would have to think about it more," Hutcherson concluded.

It's no secret that Hutcherson's portrayal of Peeta Mellark made him a huge star but it looks like he has no plans of joining any major franchises anytime soon.

Hutcherson's most recent project was Future Man, which enjoyed its third and final season this April.
