Hugh Jackman Says Wolverine Was The “Role Of A Lifetime” During X-Men Day

Hugh Jackman may no longer be interested in returning as the X-Men's Wolverine, but the actor still very much respects the character, reflecting on his years as Logan in the franchise. Taking time to celebrate X-Men Day this Monday, Jackman looks back at his years as Wolverine, saying that playing X-Men's adamantium-clawed hero has been nothing but "the role of a lifetime."

Taking to social media, Jackman celebrates X-Men day, paying tribute to his role as James Howlett. Not only do we get to see Jackman's thoughts on the celebration, but we also get to see a photo taken from the 2017 comic book movie, Logan. Gritty and realistic, Logan served as Jackman's swan song, putting an end to the actor's 17-year run as Wolverine.

Take a look at the actor's post down below:

For the past two years, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has been trying to convince Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine for a tag team movie with the Merc with a Mouth. Time and time again, the actor has turned the offer, despite the many times Reynolds tries to call for Jackman's return.

Speaking in an interview with MTV, the Australian actor reaffirms his stance, saying that he's pretty much "done" with Wolverine.

"When I saw Deadpool, I was like, wow that's cool. It's just a matter of time," Jackman said. "It's a bit like you're at the greatest party you've ever been at, you've been dancing for an hour and a half, and then you're just like ‘It's time, OK. If I stay any longer, it's gonna get ugly.' It's like, it's time."

Of course, now that the X-Men are going to make their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can only expect a new actor to take on the role of Wolvie for Disney. The only question is who.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix premieres June 5, 2019.
