Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds may come across as a massive goofball and an all-around gleeful person to a lot of his supporters and colleagues but even people like him aren't immune to issues concerning mental health. In fact, the Canadian actor has been struggling with anxiety for virtually his entire life and he opened up about it on social media in an eye-opening post.
Taking to his official social media pages, Reynolds took a lot of people by surprise when he admitted his mental health battle, even referring to anxiety as his "lifelong pal". Spreading awareness about his current condition, Reynolds wrote: "One of the reasons I'm posting this so late is I overschedule myself and important things slip. And one of the reasons I overschedule myself is my lifelong pa, anxiety."
The Green Lantern actor continued: "I know I'm not alone and more importantly to all those like me who overschedule, overthink, overwork, over-worry and over-everything, please know you're not alone. We don't talk enough about mental health and don't do enough to destigmatize talking about it. But, as with this post, better late than never, I hope…"
The said post coincided with Mental Health Awareness Month and following Ryan's brave declaration, the actor received an outpour of support from his fans and peers, most notably fellow X-Men star and internet "rival" Hugh Jackman. The Wolverine actor was among the celebrities who extended their support for Reynolds. Putting their online "differences" aside, the legendary Marvel actor commented: "Mate - your honesty is not only brave but, I'm positive will help countless others who struggle with anxiety too. Good on you!"
Meanwhile, Reynolds is gearing up for his highly anticipated arrival to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the one and only Wade Wilson, and while we still don't know much about Deadpool 3 and when it actually drops, we can all rest assured knowing that Marvel Studios will allow the actor to get away with a lot of things thanks to the official R-rating of the upcoming project.
