Genshin Impact is one of the most successful games ever, and a big part of its success is due to its ensemble of characters with different movesets and abilities you can play as and choose to add to your own personal team. However, the only way to get characters in Genshin Impact is by gambling. You don't have to spend any real money, but even if you're a free-to-play player, you're going to spend in-game currency to get random chances at getting a character. That's how the system works.

The dirty secret, though, is that there are ways to get characters without so much gambling, or at the least, you can gamble with better odds. In this article, we'll explain how you can get any Genshin Impact character you want.

When you make a new account in Genshin Impact, you're given a beginning set of items, resources, and currencies to get your journey started off on the right foot. You unlock all this stuff throughout your first handful of Adventure Rank (AR) levels. Included in all this is the currency you use to roll for characters.

Essentially, there are a number of different 'banners' going in Genshin at any given time. These banners generally highlight a set of characters or weapons you have an increased likelihood of getting vs other characters or weapons. You can spend currency on these banners to get a character or a weapon, and each time you do, there's a small chance you'll get a good character or weapon, so by stacking together lots of chances, this is how you build your team.

What you can do is make a bunch of different accounts, speedrun the tutorial through AR 5 where you unlock the ability to roll for characters, and then use all your new account currencies to roll as many times as you can until you happen on a good character you feel like building your account around.

This process of rerolling is not at all frowned upon by the developers of Genshin, so you're free to do it as many times as you like without fear of consequences. It's easiest to use a temporary email address platform to use to sign up for new accounts; then, when you find the account you want to use, you can change your account's email address.

However, make sure to keep access open to your temporary emails throughout the process, because you will need access to it to change your account's email to your actual email address. Don't let your account get lots, especially if you've had some good luck!

On average, you can get about 16 rolls in about 20 minutes once you've got the process down, though this will change as updates and events come and go, so you can get nearly 50 chances at the awesome character of your dreams every hour. Yes, chances of getting something awesome are low, but a big part of why it's so low is because getting the materials to roll for characters is a grind.

With a little determination and some flexibility on what kind of starting character you're looking for, you can get yourself whatever you'd like if you just relax, put on some Netflix, and make your accounts in the background. However, there is another option.

Account Trading in Genshin Impact

The Genshin "gets" you, as in how the game gets players to spend so much money on it, isn't through a ton of different microtransactions that sell every part of the game to you or some kind of expensive monthly subscription.

Genshin's main thing is its characters, and you get characters by gambling. If you choose to, you can use real money to gamble for characters, but you don't have to use real money. Either way, it's all gambling and random chance. You might get lucky getting the same character for free a whale spends thousands to randomly unlock.

The nature of this monetization means that trading accounts is always a threat. A player won't want to gamble to get something they could just trade for or otherwise get for a direct lump-sum payment, of course. Naturally, it's against the rules to trade or buy and sell accounts.

However, there's a lot of gray area here. It's impossible for Genshin devs to detect if the person who originally made the account is the person playing it. And there's really nothing wrong with, for example, playing a game on your significant other's account and eventually taking over that account since you ended up more interested in the game than your partner.

Accordingly, the devs don't really have a specific policy against account trading or a consequence for it, per se, and rather will occasionally go after marketplaces that sell accounts or people advertising accounts for sale or trade in-game. The thing is there are millions of these sellers across the internet selling all kinds of accounts, far too many to ever deal with meaningfully.

Many see this gray area as an opportunity to type in the name of their favorite character followed by the words "buy account" into Google, spend a couple of bucks, and enjoy a smoother Genshin without having to gamble as much and any risk of being punished.

Much like the gray market video game sellers out there, like G2A, these practices have a mixed reputation within the community. Many simply don't care, and many think that the gambling-based nature of the game justifies whatever exploitation of the system can be done. It's up to you to decide for yourself.
