The Punisher: One Last Kill has perfectly set up Jon Bernthal’s return as Frank Castle in the MCU for the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The Marvel Special Presentation reveals Frank’s whereabouts following his absence in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, showing him finally completing his mission to avenge his family.
With Frank now set to work alongside Peter Parker (Tom Holland) against New York’s street-level criminals, here’s how One Last Kill lays the groundwork for his on-screen debut in Brand New Day.
How The Punisher: One Last Kill Sets Up Frank Castle’s Appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead. Read with Caution.
Frank finally completes his mission to avenge his family, taking down everyone responsible for their murder in The Punisher: One Last Kill.
After exacting his vengeance, he reaches a turning point where he finds a new purpose and returns to his Punisher identity by wearing his signature skull vest.
As this sets up his future in the MCU, director Reinaldo Marcus Green reveals how the Disney+ TV special lays the groundwork for Frank’s team-up with Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In an interview with The Direct, Green says One Last Kill comes at the perfect time to show viewers “know his psychological state before he goes into Spider-Man.”
“I couldn't have asked for better timing for us,” he adds.
The special begins with Frank at the lowest point of his life, his need for revenge consuming him. After finally completing his mission, he is left empty but discovers a new purpose in protecting the innocent.
This positions Frank as a true vigilante when he next appears in Brand New Day. However, given the stark contrast between Frank and Peter Parker’s personalities, conflict is expected to arise between the two in the fourth Spider-Man film.
What is Spider-Man: Brand New Day About?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see a more mature Peter Parker living in isolation after erasing himself from everyone’s memory, including MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), with the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Set four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, he becomes a fully anonymous Spider-Man, facing intense street-level threats while dealing with deep personal loneliness in gritty New York City.
As he struggles with isolation, his abilities are said to undergo a dangerous evolution, with rumors suggesting a possible human–spider mutation. He also faces new threats like Scorpion (Michael Mando) and The Punisher.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and described as a grounded new chapter for the character, Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
