Who Is the Muscle Devil and Why Did the Anime Leave Him Out?
The Muscle Devil is a Devil that represents humanity's fear of muscles. At first reading, muscles don't seem all that scary, but the Devil's existence could signify the fear of being overpowered by a muscled opponent.
In the Intro arc, shortly after acquiring his Chainsaw Man powers, Denji sees the Muscle Devil in a young girl's vicinity.
The girl asks Denji not to hurt the Devil, claiming that he saved her from her abusive father.
Conflicted, Denji proposes that they all run away together as his experiences with Pochita have shown him that some Devils are good.
As it turns out, the Muscle Devil was treacherous after all. He had been manipulating the girl and would have killed Denji had he not turned into Chainsaw Man.
The main reason the Muscle Devil was cut from the anime has to do with pacing.
Since the Devil was easily defeated and not that important for the plot, he was an easy candidate for removal.
However, fans were torn about the change as they felt that it sheds light on Denji's complicated feelings about Devils.
So, How Powerful Is the Muscle Devil in Chainsaw Man?
The Muscle Devil is quite strong against an ordinary human, but he's no match for Chainsaw Man.
This makes sense because, while many people are afraid of being overpowered, muscles themselves aren't a very common fear. In fact, some people wish they were muscled.
The Muscle Devil has all the standard Devil powers, such as the ability to make contracts with humans, the ability to reincarnate in Hell if killed on Earth and vice versa, and the power to regenerate by consuming blood.
His specialist powers include the manipulation of his muscles and the muscles of others.
The former ability allows the Muscle Devil to increase in size and overwhelm his opponents.
Manipulating the muscles of others allows him to control the movement of his victims or even break their bodies, just by touching them.
Muscles are no match for chainsaws, however, so Denji was able to slice through the Muscle Devil easily.
This was one of Denji's first kills as Chainsaw Man, so it makes sense for it not to be too challenging.
