This doesn't mean that no older or younger students ever enroll, of course. However, the above real-life information seems to match our estimation regarding Sydney's age.
If she joined the Institute when she was about 18-20 years old, she would probably still be in her early or mid-twenties when she starts working with Carmy, having had some other work experience beforehand.
