Aside from the usual shōjo, seinen, isekai, and slice of life, there is also mecha, among other genres. This genre is perfect for those interested in series that have elements of sci-fi and robots. Putting it simply, mecha generally involves giant fighting robots piloted by people. One of the most popular series under the mecha genre is Gurren Lagann, a long-time classic for many anime fans.
Gurren Lagann, or Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, is an original anime series created by Gainax. It was released in 2007 with a total of 27 episodes, so it’s a series that’s easy to binge-watch. After the series’ release, many other media adaptations were released as the years followed. It ranged from manga, light novels, video games, and films. Gurren Lagann is also critically acclaimed, being a recipient of numerous awards.
The series is set in a futuristic version of Earth where humanity was driven to live in underground villages. Lordgenome, the Spiral King, currently rules the planet. In these villages, humanity is isolated from each other and has no way of contacting the surface world or other villages. The main characters of the story are two boys named Simon and Kamina.
Kamina is Simon’s older brother figure who dreams of reaching the land above. When he was a kid, his father was able to reach the surface world. He promised that they would meet again, which is probably why Kamina grew up determined to see the world beyond Giha Village.
Kamina tends to be arrogant and awfully confident but has strong determination. His confidence is justified—in terms of combat and planning, he’s a key figure in the formation and success of Team Dai-Gurren. He has influenced many of the characters in the series, which makes him a charismatic leader, fighter, and an incredibly significant person to Simon.

How Old is Kamina in Gurren Lagann?
Kamina’s birthday is unknown, but he is estimated to be around 18 years old.
Unfortunately, we don’t see Kamina age like the rest of the characters following the time skip of seven years. He meets his demise in Episode 8 after one of their big battles against Thymilph, one of the Spiral King’s Four Divine Generals. Numerous fatal injuries led him to his death. However, his memory lives on all the way until the end of the series.
