How Black Panther Grew During Captain America: Civil War End Credits

Warning:This article contains Captain America: Civil War spoilers. You have been warned.

During one of the end credits sequences in Captain America: Civil War, we see Bucky and Cap finding refuge in Prince T'Challa/Black Panther's (Chadwick Boseman) kingdom of Wakanda. This came as a surprise to many since previous promos of the film showed the character bent on gaining revenge against The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). This end credits scene is one of the many in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where we see the plot progressing and teasing future films in the franchise. However, it is also one of those rare instances where we saw a Marvel character's growth in a movie.

In an interview with USA Today, Captain America: Civil War director Anthony Russo explained how those final moments provided closure for T'Challa's story following his vengeful motivations against Bucky and Team Cap in general.

He said:

Black Panther's arc is one of our favorite things about the movie: He's driven so powerfully by vengeance and he gets to a point at the end of the film where he realizes what that drive has done and is doing to other people and he's able to set it down and move forward.
This idea that he would offer refuge to Cap, this guy he's been fighting the whole movie, and Bucky, this guy who he's been trying to kill the whole movie … is just a really cool arc for him to go through and it's inspiring.

Not only did that moment show the growth of T'Challa's story and his development as an individual, but it also offers for just the right launchpad for the future of Black Panther in the MCU. Obviously, Black Panther has now found a new allegiance with Bucky and Cap, but it also shows how he has accepted his role as a superhero and a part of the Avengers.

Black Panther will be the MCU's final installment before the beginning of Phase 4, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1. It's highly likely that Team Iron Man will end up in Wakanda in search of Bucky and Cap. It would be interesting to see how a face-off between T'Challa and his former teammates will play out.

Captain America: Civil War is now in theaters, while Black Panther is slated for release on February 16, 2018.
