House of the Dragon Star Teases Ser Harrold Westerling's Fate in Season 2

There is little doubt that loyalties were tested in the last two episodes of House of the Dragon. This was especially true in The Green Council when members of the King's small council immediately got to work on installing Prince Aegon II Targaryen to the Iron Throne. However, two characters stood their ground and defended Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen's claim to the throne.

Unfortunately for Lord Beesbury, his decision to defy the Green Council led to his death. So did Ser Harrold Westerling suffer the same fate? Graham McTavish has spoken up about his character's fate and is teasing his possible return in House of the Dragon Season 2.

Graham McTavish recently spoke to TVLine where he discussed what was going through Ser Harrold's mind in House of the Dragon Episode 9 when he defied the Green Council.

“Harrold’s entire life had been about his devotion to that family, and really in particular to Rhaenyra. He would’ve known her since she was literally born, so it would have been a very, very difficult moment for him, but also one, in the end, he didn’t hesitate about,” McTavish said. He then shared his personal thoughts on what it may have been like for Lord Westerling to leave the small council.

“So when he leaves, I mean — hey, you know, in my mind, I imagined him sort of striding out, getting on his horse, riding out of town and really taking time to decompress to actually think, you know, 'What am I going to do next?' Because I don’t think he has a plan,” McTavish stated.

“I don’t think Harrold would go home at night having an exit strategy if things went wrong,” he continued. “He would never have imagined that ever happening.”

But did Ser Harrold manage to walk out of that council and survive long enough to get to a safe place? “I don’t know where it’s all going, all the rest of it. But I mean, the possibilities are there for any number of scenarios at the moment,” McTavish said.

At this point, it's unclear whether the former Lord Commander of the Kingsguard will be back in the second season. Still, fans are hoping he makes it to Dragonstone and declares his loyalty to Rhaenyra in the same way Ser Beric Dondarrion pledges himself to Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date.
