House of the Dragon Showrunners Reveal David Benioff and DB Weiss' Reaction to Game of Thrones Spin-Off

People were understandably excited when it was announced that Game of Thrones is getting a spin-off series and that the show's most notable director Miguel Sapochnik will serve as one of the showrunners. However, it looks like some were not particularly impressed by the news. Sapochnik has just revealed how David Benioff and D.B. Weiss reacted when he told them about his involvement in House of the Dragon.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss served as the head writers and showrunners of Game of Thrones for eight seasons so they should know what it's like to be in charge of a major fantasy series. Naturally, Miguel Sapochnik approached them when he decided to be involved in House of the Dragon but Sapochnik didn't expect their reactions.

“They said, ‘Don’t do it,’ and David didn’t talk to me for six months,” Sapochnik joked with The Hollywood Reporter.

All kidding aside, the House of the Dragon co-showrunner pointed out that he had enjoyed working with Benioff and Weiss.

“No, they were lovely. I had one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my career working with David and Dan — they were wonderful to me, wonderful friends,” Sapochnik said. He then added that Benioff and Weiss are not particularly pleased with his new job but they have since accepted it.

“No one’s ever going to happy if you start going out with your best mate’s girlfriend, it’s just not going to happen, but they were good,” Sapochnik said.

Miguel Sapochnik is best known for directing some of the most popular Game of Thrones episodes including the Emmy Award-winning Battle of the Bastards. With that in mind, we're expecting Sapochnik to do great things for House of the Dragon next month.

House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022.
