With House of the Dragon season 2 premiering this week, here are a couple of predictions on what fans want to see from the Game of Thrones prequel series!
Since House of the Dragon season 2 is based on George RR Martin's Fire & Blood novel, book readers and show fans could easily predict what the return of the show will mean for the series in the long run.
For now, here are a couple of highlights that the second season ought to shed light on.
Rhaenyra's Son's Death Will Open the Floodgates to Civil War
Now that the Green Council has crowned Aegon II, the consequences of this decision may snowball in the second season, starting with Rhaenyra thinking twice about Viserys' final words before his death bed.
This would inevitably set up a war, and since Aegon's prophecy is not in the novel, this is what would bring fans to watch and anticipate the story unfolding in House of the Dragon season 2.
Aemond & Daemon Targaryen Will Take the Second Season By Storm
The reign for power never stops in Westeros, especially among the Targaryens in House of the Dragon season 2.
Daemon Targaryen may set off to take over Harrenhall before leading the plan to let King's Landing fall. He and his bride, Rhaenyra, will likely suffer the consequences of their refusal to meet eye-to-eye with what they want from the war.
However, what fans are also hoping to see, or at least be teased about, is how the battle between Aemond and Daemon would go down, considering that even the trailer itself has shown Aemond not fearing his uncle.
A Rhaenyra Targaryen and Queen Alicent Confrontation Scene
Rhaenyra and Alicent are two of the main leads of House of the Dragon, and while their last affair had seemingly burned bridges between them, season 2 poses a compelling threat that could bring them back on-screen together.
With Rhaenyra already having lost a son and Alicent set to lose a grandson, according to the book, their love in caring for their own children and the fast-approaching war could ideally push them to come together once more.
Olivia Cooke recently said that Alicent's drive this season is "diminishing power" in the sense that, "What does she do when she doesn't have agency or any semblance of autonomy within the castle?" Who would Alicent be if she can't shape the realm?
As for Emma D'Arcy, Rhaenyra's "major engine" in season 2 is grief, where the "pronounced stages of grief at the start of the first season" would end up with this "family of strangers who are trying to navigate one another" after losing the patriarchal head of their family.
The Targaryens Will Inevitably Face A Civil War
It remains to be seen whether House of the Dragon season 2 will be where the Targaryens' civil war will unfold, however, the Aegon Targaryen actor Tom Glynne-Carney teased, "[Season 2]'s nuclear," he revealed, "It goes on a pretty wild ride." which could potentially mean building up on what's to come in the slated multi-seasonal series.
