House of the Dragon season 2 appears to be setting up the long-awaited battle between Daemon Targaryen and Aemond Targaryen, as the trailer has shown. As prominent figures on their sides, here's what makes Daemon and Aemond the 'perfect foes' to watch out for this season.
House of the Dragon S2 Tease the Long-Awaited Duel
With House of the Dragon season 2 fast approaching on Max, fans are eager to watch what happens next between Aemond and his uncle.
A brief part of the trailer shows Aemond saying, "My uncle is a challenge I welcome — if he dares face me," and considering that both Targaryens are not willing to back down from a fight, the second season urges them to shine and showcase their strengths.
What makes them the 'perfect enemies', however, is sharing a number of common qualities in their own factions: Daemon is next in line to be King, which was evident in season 1 considering he surpassed his older brother in battle, similar to Aemond's situation, pitting the duo against one another.
But one thing fans should remember about Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon is that no war should ever be rushed into the making. So, instead, here's what the gradual teasing about their rivalry suggests.

How Their Rivalry May Impact the Targaryen Civil War
Truth be told, whether or not Aemond vs. Daemon's battle ensues this second season, fans have long debated their feud dating back to what the first season has portrayed about them.
According to most fans, Daemon would win in a sword fight against Aemond, considering that the former is older and has more battle experience. Had they been the same age, then their money is on Aemond. Plus, the fact that Aemond has a vulnerability for having a disability.
However, what does put Aemond at an advantage is due to his age. Since he is younger, as a fan pointed out, he is probably more agile and energetic, which could be an upperhand when facing someone like Daemon.
Not to mention, Aemond has more motivation to become the best fighter he can for his faction, which beats Daemon's own personal goals.
The same points were even brought up by the series cast themselves: "Who gives less f*cks?" Phoebe Campbell, who plays Lady Rhaena Targaryen, said, "Daemon. Aemond tries to give less [of it]."
Bethany Antonia (Lady Baela Targaryen) adds, "Aemond really cares underneath all that patch and bravado," suggesting that he may be at a disadvantage compared to Daemon.
Still, all these theories would have to wait once House of the Dragon season 2 airs on Max this June.
