House of the Dragon Star Matt Smith Says Game of Thrones Prequel is 'Really Different'

We're still waiting for House of the Dragon but it looks like Matt Smith is already hyping up the Game of Thrones prequel series. The Morbius star has just spoken up about how the upcoming HBO show is going to be "really different" from the original drama based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books!

Matt Smith was one of the first cast members announced when the new show was announced last year and people were thrilled to know he would be playing an important Targaryen character. For now, we have only seen a bit of what could happen in the series from the House of the Dragon trailer but the former Doctor Who actor assures Comicbook.com that the new show will be unlike its predecessor.

"I think it's really different to the original series, to be honest with you," Smith said. "I mean it has to be. The original series was its own thing and it was, it was so brilliant and, and sort of left a mark in a way that it would be impossible to repeat. So, I don't know."

He then admitted that he hasn't actually watched Game of Thrones.

"The truth is I haven't seen any so it's difficult for me. Essentially it's in the same world, it has to take on a slightly different identity. But who knows? I have no idea," Smith said.

It's interesting to know that one of the stars of House of the Dragon has never watched Game of Thrones. Nevertheless, it's great that Matt Smith is confident about his new series.

House of the Dragon will also star Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, and Rhys Ifans. The new Game of Thrones series has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere on HBO in 2022.
