The internet was shaken to its very core over the weekend when reports began surfacing online that Elizabeth Olsen is joining the second season of HBO's House of the Dragon. Olsen, who is seemingly taking some time off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is reportedly in serious talks for a role in the Game of Thrones prequel series.
Not long after the rumor circulated, a follow-up report said Superman actor Henry Cavill was also in talks to star in Season 2. Of course, given his involvement in Netflix's The Witcher, the British actor is naturally a good fit for the show. However, as it stands, nothing has been made official yet although HBO recently confirmed that Season 2 has in fact been greenlit.
Fans are excited about the possibility of Marvel and DC's biggest stars coming together for a project and understandably so, but it looks like there's no reason to rejoice after all. Natalie Zamora of Winter is Coming notes that there could be zero truth about the said castings since HBO would typically cast lesser-known or up-and-coming actors for the show.

While the report raises a pretty valid argument, that's not to say that Olsen and Cavill being cast in the series isn't a possibility. I mean, the star power alone would bring more eyes to the series, and judging by the reception the rumor garnered, even folks who haven't seen a single episode of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones for that matter have suddenly become interested in the project.
House of the Dragon is streaming on HBO and HBO Max.
