House of the Dragon Episode 9 Finally Confirms Helaena's Grim Prophecy

The penultimate episode of House of the Dragon has been kicking up a storm since its premiere and there are several reasons why people can't stop talking about The Green Council. Episode 9 just confirmed Helaena Targaryen's latest prophecy and it had nothing to do with a traumatizing event from the book.

In House of the Dragon Episode 9, the Greens immediately got to work to install Aegon II Targaryen as the new king of Westeros after King Viserys' death. But first, they needed to find the prince who had gone missing from the Red Keep.

Alicent Hightower goes to her daughter Helaena who has no idea where her husband has gone. Still, she repeats the line she previously said in Episode 8, warning her mother to "beware of the beast beneath the boards." It is later confirmed that there was indeed something lurking under their feet.

During Aegon's coronation at the main hall of the Dragonpit, the escaped Rhaenys Velaryon sneaks down to retrieve Meleys and urges the dragon to burst out from under the floor, trampling people in the process. Rhaenys then confronts the Greens before flying away.

As it turns out, the "beast beneath the boards" was actually Meleys who will carry Rhaenys to Dragonstone and report the usurpers to Rhaenyra Targaryen. Needless to say, people are feeling vindicated (and relieved) that Helaena's prophecy wasn't about her own grim fate.

For now, it looks like Helaena (and the Greens) will live to see another day since Rhaenys didn't order Meleys to burn the usurpers with dragonfire. Unfortunately, it also means that the Dance of the Dragons is finally set to begin.

The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 10 is titled The Black Queen and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
