Back in July, word had it that Henry Cavill's Superman wouldn't be making any sort of appearance in Shazam! so that he could leave the spotlight to Zachary Levi's Captain Marvel and to Asher Angel's Billy Batson. Now, rumor has it that the Man of Steel might actually be popping up in Shazam's standalone movie after all.
Taking to Twitter, The Nerd Rage Podcast made a post claiming that the site has heard from sources that Cavill is going to appear in the post-credits scene of Shazam!. According to the publication, the DC Extended Universe actor is being made to appear in the film to "fulfill his final contractual obligation as Superman."
Though this might sound like Warner Brothers is planning to cut ties with the Batman v Superman: Man of Steel star after he finishes his post-credits scene in Shazam!, the post clarifies saying that the cameo appearance is being set up as the studio's method of "judging audience engagement with Cavill as the Man of Steel."
While this rumor ought to be taken with a grain of salt like any other rumor on the internet, it does serve as an update regarding Cavill's status in the DCEU.
There was a whole lot of concern when rumors started filling in last month saying that the actor was parting ways with Warner Brothers and hanging up his cape as the Son of Krypton. The DCEU might have been struggling in its attempts to find its foothold, but DC fans can't help but love Cavill's take on the Man of Steel.
Hopefully, this alleged cameo in Shazam! will lead to another movie for Supes.
Shazam! is scheduled to premiere April 5, 2019.
