Henry Cavill Stands By Man of Steel's Move to Kill Zod

There are a lot of things to criticize about Man of Steel, but one of the more vocal arguments comes from Superman breaking Zod's neck by the end of the film. Talking to Square Mile, Henry Cavill says that he stands by Superman's actions and says they were essential to his character's development into the Superman we all know and love.

Cavill says:

"The killing of Zod would have led to a wonderful reason why Superman never kills. Not, ‘he never kills just because his dad said so one day.' He made the decision himself because of an impossible scenario, to which he then said, ‘I don't care if it's impossible again, I'm gonna find a way to make it possible in the impossible.'"

Apparently, that character was supposed to come full circle by Batman v Superman, but Cavill regrets that it never happened in that movie. He expressed:

"We didn't get the opportunity to show the other side of it, the ‘I'm ready to be Superman now and I'm ready to show the world the best examples'. That's where the joy and glee comes from, and that sense of warmth from the character, which is his real superpower – he makes people believe in themselves. It was a shame because it would've been nice, and it would have been a lovely coupling with the seriousness and the depth of Man of Steel."

Of course, come Justice League, Superman was suddenly all nice and chummy with everyone, but a lot of fans agree that the change was too sudden. Everyone guesses that this was due to Warner Bros trying to appease to the complaining fanboys and trying their best to turn Superman into the character that everyone wanted to see as fast as they could.

Now Justice League has come out a commercial disappointment with a number of fans demanding a ‘Snyder Cut' of the movie. Though I agree Snyder's films weren't perfect, I think we deserve to see a proper end to the films series of films that he started.

For now, we have no idea when we're going to get another Superman movie, but everyone is hoping that it will be sooner rather than later. Cavill is still very much committed to the character, so all we need now is the right script and the right director.

Man of Steel 2 has not been officially announced.
