Hellboy Reboot Actor David Harbour Has The Blessing Of Ron Perlman

Hellboy fans might have needed some time to come to accept the fact that David Harbour has become Millennium Film's new Right Hand of Doom, but it looks like the Stranger Things star managed to get some sort of blessing from Hellboy's original actor, Ron Perlman.

Speaking in an interview with the comedian Marc Maron on the WTF with Marc Maronpodcast, Harbour decided to detail the story behind the Hellboy reboot. Though original Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro wanted to make another Hellboy film with Perlman after Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the budgets were just too big and a lot of other issues came in the way of the film.

"A little bit, I mean, it was not a great situation," Harbour said. "They did two, him and Guillermo del Toro, and they, I think, wanted to make their third, but I think a lot of issues came up. I think budgets were too big, I think that they took a lot of time, they waited too long, so I think they wanted to do something else, they wanted to do something different with it."

Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army were films that were both loosely based on Mike Mignola's graphic novels. Though they were minor box office successes, they were received well by fans and critics. Both films gathered a strong following after their theatrical release and many expected del Torro and Perlman to work on Hellboy 3.

It came as a surprise to many when Millennium decided to give the project to Neil Marshall and to Harbour instead.

"[The filmmakers] came to me and it was a very different concept, a very different idea, and there was initially some bluster around it and I think everybody kind of got it and Ron got it," Harbour revealed. "He came and we had dinner and he was just really cool."

Though fans were skeptical at first, a lot started warming up to the idea of Harbour being the new Harbinger of the Apocalypse when they saw the first photo of the Stranger Things actor as Hellboy. This new revelation that Perlman gave the actor his blessing also adds to the faith, making us even more excited for the Hellboy reboot.

Millennium's new Hellboy movie hits cinemas on January 11, 2019.
