The first trailer for Hellboy certainly featured a lot of action and violence. However, an alternate cut of the same teaser has some interesting footage.
There is little doubt that the "Smash Things" trailer has some light moments including Eastenders star Laila Morse asking Red for some ID. However, some scenes are decidedly more graphic as Red shoots an enemy point-blank in the face. Not surprisingly, the Green Band version of the trailer swaps that sequence out with a hilarious scene: Red actually takes on a hapless Lucha Libre wrestler. That moment is certainly more in line with a crowd clearing out of an arena.
The Lucha Libre scene isn't the only awesome new footage in the alternate trailer. Red also makes it clear that he isn't a fan of Ben Daimio. At one point, he punches Daniel Dae Kim's character in the face before mocking the BPRD agent. Here's hoping that Red actually did that to force Ben to turn into a jaguar.
Another graphic sequence where a large monster is shown chopping a body in half was also replaced with tamer footage of the same monster approaching a bridge. It's a subtle change but it's instantly noticed considering that the scene is an awesomely bloody addition to the original trailer.
The film also stars American Gods actor Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, Resident Evil alum Milla Jovovich as Nimue the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Thomas Haden Church as Lobster Johnson, and Sophie Okonedo as Lady Hatton. It is directed by Neil Marshall.
Hellboy hits theaters on April 12, 2019.
