It is unclear whether the heaven sought by Maru and Kiruko exists in post-apocalyptic Japan.

In actuality, Maru and Kiruko have no idea where to look for it, what it looks like, or how they will locate it, leaving Heaven as an ambiguous destination or possibly a delusion.

But, as far as Maru knows, heaven does exist, and it manifests itself in various places around the world, such as Kiruko's arms, the tomato garden, or even a civilized society in which all residents live together and share resources.

Kiruko used to think the Asakusa Training Association and Funayama Orphanage were heaven.

This is where it all began for her, where she discovered her safe haven with her brother, Haruki, the guy she adored the most, Robin, and the doctor, Sakota.

Heaven is an ethereal place in a country infested with Hiruko or Man-Eaters.

Everyone interprets it differently, just like Maru and Kiruko, who are determined to find it no matter where their journey takes them.

What is certain is that Kiruko must accompany Maru to heaven for however long it takes.

It may be her final task in the world, but Kiruko is dead set on finishing the job, killing as many Maneaters as she can, and surviving.

They only need to stick together, find the person with the same face as Maru, and solve all of the world's mysteries.

As the plot of Heavenly Delusion unfolds, Maru and Kiruko begin to suspect that the Takahara Academy may be the heaven they have been seeking all along.

But that has yet to be confirmed, as the two of them can't believe Heaven is a decrepit facility with no signs of life or a glimpse of the person with Maru's face.

The Takahara Academy has various branches all around Japan.

Their facilities appeared to be raising children and safeguarding them from harm beyond the walls, but this was not the case.

The academy's so-called teachers have hidden intentions, and they raise kids for their own personal gain.

For example, the director of one of the facilities wishes to have her brain transplanted into one of the children in order to extend her life.

The odd aspect is that the teachers and scientists are raising children to become Hiruko or Man-Eaters.

They are the same monsters that Maru and Kiruko encountered on their journey.

The Takahara Academy is steeped in mystery. Whatever Maru and Kiruko are looking into is bad and could have something to do with the calamity that rocked Japan and killed many people.
