It may have taken over a year, but finally, the popular Shonen Jump+ manga Heart Gear has finally returned from its lengthy hiatus with its 40th chapter.

This manga began in 2019, though its creator has suffered from health-related issues. This meant that the manga’s latest chapter is only its 40th.

Still, the series continues to have a large and dedicated fanbase who have been patiently waiting for it to return following its second major hiatus.

Heart Gear Finally Returns to Shonen Jump+ After Second Hiatus

Heart Gear is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi manga by Tsuyoshi Takaki that debuted in Shonen Jump+ back in April 2019. This series is also edited by Shihei Lin, the editor of other hit titles like Spy x Family and Chainsaw Man.

Unlike the other works that Lin manages, Heart Gear has not gotten a new chapter in over a year. That’s because the series went on hiatus in late December 2022 after the release of its 39th chapter.

This hiatus was due to the author’s health, as is the case with many manga hiatuses. After all, this is also the case with Hunter x Hunter's lengthy gaps between chapters.

Finally, Takaki confirmed that he is returning from the over one-year-long break. Now, the new chapter has been released in Shonen Jump+, with an English version also available on Manga Plus.

This isn’t the first hiatus for the manga. Back in May 2020, the author also took a break due to health issues. The first hiatus is much longer though, as it took over two years before a comeback.

Fans Are Wishing the Author Well Following Heart Gear’s Return

The Heart Gear manga may have gotten two lengthy hiatus periods, but the series is still a success. Aside from getting good reviews, the manga has gotten considerable sales.

What’s interesting is that the manga is arguably even more popular overseas as it has a considerable fanbase in countries like France.

Given how popular the series continues to be despite the hiatus, its return was well-received by many fans online.

Following Chapter 40’s release, fans hoped that Takaki’s health had improved enough for the series to continue.

Heart Gear is set to continue with Chapter 41, which is scheduled to be released on January 23. This means the manga should have a bi-weekly release schedule if the author’s health permits it.

With this manga back, Shonen Jump fans are now eagerly awaiting the return of Ruri Dragon, another popular title that has been on hiatus for over a year now.
