HBO's Watchmen: Jeremy Irons Playing an Older Ozymandias

It had been revealed before that Batman v Superman's Jeremy Irons had joined the cast of HBO's Watchmen, but there has been no confirmation of his character until now. Some people who have guessed correctly will be pleased to hear that Irons will be playing an older version of Adrian Veidt a.k.a. Ozymandias.

/Film has confirmed Irons' role in the series, but we still have no idea how involved he'll be in the show moving forward. It had been described before that Irons was playing an "aging and imperious lord of a British manor," and with his identity revealed as Veidt, it would be interesting to see just where he is decades after the original Watchmen story.

[SPOILERS] Some set photos from the show have revealed newspapers with the headline ‘Veidt Dead', and it could mean any number of things. It's possible that Veidt faked his death and assumed the identity of an old British lord, but it's possible that Irons could just be appearing in a small role and will die early on in the series (much like Sean Bean in Game of Thrones). My guess is that, though Veidt will die, his shadow will be looming over the entire story. He did, after all, maintain peace with his whole alien squid project in the original book. [END SPOILER]

For now, we have yet to get our first official look at Watchmen, but it promises to stay true to the spirit of the original comic. With Alan Moore's story a commentary on the 80s political climate, this new series plans on following modern politics, what with the issues with Trump, Putin, and whathaveyou.

No specific release date has been set for HBO's Watchmen.
