The world is still waiting for His Dark Materials to premiere on HBO and now it looks like the highly anticipated TV series has cast one of its most important characters. It has just been confirmed that Will Parry will be portrayed by newcomer Amir Wilson.

The show's official Twitter account announced Wilson's casting. Interestingly, it includes the line that Will Parry always heard from his mother. Check out the tweet below.

"'One day, you'll follow in your father's footsteps. You're going to be a great man too. You'll take up his mantle.' Introducing @Amirrwilsonn as Will Parry," the post read along with the hashtag #HisDarkMaterials.

The casting of Will Parry is certainly an interesting one considering that fans are expecting the first season of His Dark Materials to cover Philip Pullman's book Northern Lights (or The Golden Compass). Will doesn't appear in the first book and is actually introduced in The Subtle Knife.

It certainly looks like the series will somehow cover as much as it can and it's a welcome move. After all, Will didn't even show up in the film adaptation of The Golden Compass. Either way, we're happy to know that Will is joining Lyra Belacqua much sooner than expected.

The premise of His Dark Materials reads as follows:

"Adapting Philip Pullman's award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands."

His Dark Materials is expected to premiere on HBO in late 2019.
