HBO Max's New Teaser Shares New Footage From James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

HBO Max released a new promo that reveals major Warner Bros films that are coming to the streaming service. It features several blockbuster films and a short clip for a movie from the DC Extended Universe. With all the upcoming WB 2021 films going to HBO Max, the streaming service shared a new promo video that includes a new look at James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.

The clip was very short, but despite that, fans were able to catch glimpses of Bloodsport, Polka-Dot man, Peacemaker, and Ratcatcher 2. In the last part of the promo clip, Harley Quinn can also be seen in the clip. Another shot was seen where the full team was trekking on a seemingly pouring rain or snow.

The Suicide Squad, like the other major blockbusters that were shown in the promo, will debut in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time. This was a landmark move that Warner Bros decided to push through, as caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was met with backlash from some prominent filmmakers, especially Christopher Nolan. However, The Verge reported that the performance of Nolan's latest film, Tenet, was what prompted WB to make the shift from theaters only to HBO Max and theaters on the same day. In this way, the studio can diversify its income stream and not rely on theaters, especially in the US where many theaters are still closed. The move was made after Tenet did not provide the theatrical results that the studio hoped for.

In December 2020, Warner Media Studios and Networks Group Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff stated the decision. She said, "We're living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group. No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021. With this unique one-year plan, we can support our partners in exhibition with a steady pipeline of world-class films, while also giving moviegoers who may not have access to theaters or aren't quite ready to go back to the movies the chance to see our amazing 2021 films. We see it as a win-win for film lovers and exhibitors, and we're extremely grateful to our filmmaking partners for working with us on this innovative response to these circumstances."

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is set to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2021.
