Streaming services have always competed for better content, and with HBO Max launching this May, the platform has landed a movie deal with Seth Rogen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rogen is set to star in An American Pickle, which is an adaptation of the New Yorker series Sell Out by Simon Rich. Here's the very kooky description of the film:

The official logline sees Rogen starring as Herschel Greenbaum, a struggling laborer who immigrates to America in 1920 with dreams of building a better life for his beloved family. One day, while working at his factory job, he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for 100 years. The brine preserves him perfectly and when he emerges in present-day Brooklyn, he finds that he hasn't aged a day. But when he seeks out his family, he is troubled to learn that his only surviving relative is his great-grandson, Ben Greenbaum (also played by Rogen), a mild-mannered computer coder whom Herschel can't even begin to understand.

The movie is set to be directed by Neighbors cinematographer Brandon Trost and this will be his first feature-length film. We don't know what to expect, but with Rogen proving himself an asset behind the scenes as well, it would be interesting to see what they can come up with when it comes to An American Pickle.

Pickle was originally set to come out in theaters, bit with the Coronavirus effectively shutting theaters down, it makes sense for the film to come out in an alternate medium. Rogen had this to say about the HBO deal, "We worked very hard and put as much of ourselves in this story as possible… We're very proud of the end result and we can't wait for people to get to see it."

We don't have an official release date for An American Pickle yet, but HBO Max is set to launch on May 27.
