Peggy Carter is certainly one of the most interesting characters introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell seems uncertain if the S.H.I.E.L.D co-founder will return despite the possible time-travel happening in Avengers 4.
Peggy has certainly evolved since she was introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger. Atwell has continued playing the character in her own short-lived ABC TV series Agent Carter and reprised her role for a cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Fans are hoping that Peggy will be back in Avengers 4 since the sequel is expected to feature the heroes traveling back in time. Unfortunately, Atwell may have revealed to ComicBook.com that she is officially done with the character.
"If I had the opportunity again to play her, I would have to feel that there was an appropriate development and something more than I've already done. It's a bit of an anomaly to revisit characters as an actor."
It might sound like Atwell isn't open to returning as Peggy in Avengers 4 or a possible Agent Carter Season 3. Nevertheless, the Christopher Robin star says that she is proud of Peggy's positive impact on people.
"I've met a lot of fans of the show and to be the custodian for that time period and Peggy Carter is lovely. If there's going to be one character that follows me around of all the characters I've played, she's the one that's the most palatable to be associated with."
Peggy certainly has the potential of changing things up for Avengers 4 if the heroes decide to travel back in time. However, there have been no reports of Atwell being spotted on the set of the sequel. The actress appears in the upcoming Disney film Christopher Robin which was released on August 3.
Avengers 4 is scheduled to premiere in 2019.
