The invitation to become part of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences might be a rare honor and opportunity to filmmakers all around the globe, but it looks like anime film legend Hayao Miyazaki isn't interested in it at all.

Next Shark's been listing some of the anime directors who've just been recently invited to join the Oscar Academy and according to the publication's report, Miyazaki had been invited to join the organization for at least four times before. Time and time again Miyazaki's turned the request down, probably because the director believes that the taking the invitation would mean that he's close to retirement. Which is interesting, considering the fact that Miyazaki has constantly been announcing his retirement, only to come out with another project time and time again.

Miyazaki just recently came out of retirement to announce that he was working on a new feature film called How Do You Live? a movie based on Yoshino Genaburo's famous children story. The project is expected to take three to four years to finish, so it's likely that Miyazaki's just going to keep declining the Oscar Academy till his work is done. Probably even after – who knows, the director might come up with another project after How Do You Live?
