Hawkeye Directors Confirm Awesome Spider-Man: No Way Home Easter Egg

There is little doubt that last week was an exciting time for Marvel fans as Hawkeye dropped its most exciting episode (so far) which was almost immediately followed by the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home. So did you spot an awesome reference in Hawkeye Episode 5 that was eventually featured in the third Spider-Man film? Directors Bert & Bertie have confirmed they sneaked the reference in Ronin and were well aware it would appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

In Hawkeye Episode 5, Yelena Belova visits Kate Bishop's apartment where the two bonded over mac and cheese. During the conversation, Yelena points out that she wanted to see the "new" Statue of Liberty. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, we get to see the statue which had been repaired after huge damages inflicted by the villains. This time, the statue is holding the Captain America shield.

The awesome Easter egg pretty much confirmed a connection between Hawkeye and No Way Home, suggesting that the MCU series takes place after the third Spider-Man movie. So did the Hawkeye directors know what major change will be happening to the Statue of Liberty in No Way Home? Bert and Bertie confirmed they were told about the interesting new accessory.

"We did. There's a need to know basis. Things like that, there may have been a slightly larger reference to it in the original scripts. We love knowing that stuff. 'Oh! That's so cool.' Just how things weave together. That's one we were aware of," Bertie told The Hollywood Reporter.

We're loving the awesome reference and also intrigued as to what else the directors knew about upcoming MCU projects. Perhaps we'll find out more in the next year.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is still screening in theaters. Hawkeye Episode 6 will premiere on Disney+ on December 22, 2021.
