The Haunting of Hill House Creator Shares How Season 3 Could Happen

There is little doubt that The Haunting of Hill House was one of the most-watched series on Netflix in 2018. The show's success led to a sequel The Haunting of Bly Manor which was also a big hit for the streaming service. But when can we expect Season 3 of the anthology series? Mike Flanagan has spoken about how the show could continue with a new story.

Fans have been expecting to see a third season of the Haunting series this year but it seems unlikely that a new season will be released before the end of 2021. After all, Flanagan has been busy on other projects and doesn't seem to be in a hurry to work on Season 3 just yet.

But what will convince Flanagan to continue with the Haunting series? The showrunner told Entertainment Weekly that it's also about the source material.

"If the stars align in such a way that we decide to go back into the Haunting world, it would have to be so much on that track that we've set up," Flanagan said. "It would have to be with the right piece of IP, it would have to be with the right ghost-centric story, and it would have to really fit with Bly and Hill House."

It sounds like Flanagan is still in search of another gothic horror book that would work perfectly along with the two previous seasons. Gerald's Game director is still busy with other projects for Netflix so it may take some time for Flanagan to return to the Haunting world. Nevertheless, fans are waiting for an update.

Flanagan's new series Midnight Mass will premiere on Netflix on September 24, 2021.
