Harley Quinn Showrunner on Why [SPOILER] was Killed in Season 2 Premiere

If you tuned in for the premiere episode of Harley Quinn Season 2, chances are you're still shocked over the death of a legendary Batman villain. But why was that character chosen to be killed off first in the return of the animated series? Co-showrunner Justin Halpern has just revealed that it's nothing personal.

In New Gotham, Harley was frozen by Mr. Freeze when she refused to participate in the new Injustice League that has taken over the city. Although she was turned into a living decoration in Penguin's Iceberg Lounge, Harley's friends came to her rescue. Amazingly, Harley managed to go up against Penguin and killed the villain by stabbing him with her broken bat.

But why kill off Penguin so soon? Halpern told Comicbook.com that there's still a chance that the DC villain will be brought back.

"It's a comic book show so we also have the ability to resurrect people should they become necessary or relevant again to a story we're telling," he said. "But we've tried, aside from Ivy, we're trying to keep the ones that are dead, dead. And we've killed off a lot. But the nice thing about our show is that we also use a ton of C and D list villains and they end up being big parts of the show, like Kite Man."

At this point, it seems like resurrecting Penguin might not be a great idea since it wouldn't make sense. We're just hoping that Harley Quinn will continue to put the focus on characters that matter to the storyline.
