We already know that Halo Infinite is intended to be the last Halo game for at least a decade. And if that's the case, then it's only fair that we expect it to be pretty darn good.

In storyline terms, we know it's going to mark the end of the forerunner saga, and also a sequel of sorts for Halo 5, as the story follows on from the end of that game, although set long after. We also know that the main foes in the game will be The Banished, previously seen in Halo 2. Microsoft describes it as "the most expansive Master Chief campaign yet". Infinite will be set in an open world, with a changing environment that includes a day/night cycle. Players will have far greater scope to go off exploring.

They've also added multiplayer, with both Arena and Big Team Battle modes. Much like other recent multiplayer games such as Battlefield 2042, Halo Infinite will offer seasonal updates, which will add new game modes, new maps, new content, and unique events. Customization in multiplayer will offer players literally millions of possible combinations, with options to change voice, body type, armor, helmets, gloves. You name it, you can probably customize it.

Graphically, we can definitely expect this to be the most polished Halo game yet. 4K graphics, cross-progression and crossplay will be available on console and PC. Crossplay will automatically separate players based on controller input in ranked matches, to make the playing field as even as possible. And on Xbox Series X and high-end PCs, you'll also get to enjoy faster load times and up to 120 FPS. And one final point here: Halo Infinite will use something called Microsoft Smart Delivery. This means that you can purchase the game once, and then switch between consoles and PC, and the game will be the right version for whichever platform you happen to be using.
