Gundam fans might not get another season of Witch from Mercury (if at all), but there are at least upcoming shows in the franchise to look forward to. Among them is Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, which will be released globally on Netflix.

This upcoming series was revealed a few months ago with a short teaser. Now, the anime has a longer trailer that shows off more 3DCG action and reveals its Netflix partnership for a global release.

Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the most popular media franchises in Japan. Aside from many hit anime titles, Gundam continues to enjoy a large fanbase worldwide with its model kits, video games, and other entries.

The franchise made a splash last year with the premiere of Witch from Mercury, the first proper Gundam anime series in years.

Now, the franchise is getting another anime series entry titled Gundam: Requiem of Vengeance, though it’s more of a unique spinoff project.

That’s because this upcoming series is a 3DCG show that’s being produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks and SAFEHOUSE Inc.

What’s interesting about this show from an animation standpoint is that it is being made in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), the video game engine by Epic Games.

Unreal Engine being used outside of video games isn’t new. After all, shows like The Mandalorian used it. Being used for a full-fledged anime is going to be interesting, especially given UE5’s technological advancements.

As for its setting, this won’t feature a new timeline. Instead, its story will take place in the European Front of the One Year War – the first major conflict in the Universal Century timeline of the original Gundam anime.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Trailer Reveals Netflix Release

The new trailer shows off more action-packed footage, including a better look at the iconic Zaku II mobile suits.

What’s more, the trailer also teases more characters and mechs that have yet to be seen in any other series entry.

For now, the only character that has been revealed is the protagonist, Iria Sorari. She is voiced by Celia Massingham (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) who also performed as her in motion-capture.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is set to be released globally, exclusively on Netflix.

Despite the show’s Netflix release being confirmed, there’s no word yet on a release date or window for the show.
