Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Runtime Unsurprisingly Sets New Trilogy Record

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was not kidding when they said the franchise is set off to end with a bang as movie director James Gunn revealed that the threequel’s runtime will surpass the previous two films, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

Upon being asked by a fan in his comment section on Instagram about the runtime for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn replied: “It’s longer than [Vol] 1 & [Vol] 2.”

Although he had not indicated the exact runtime of the threequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 has a total runtime of 2 hours and 2 minutes, whereas Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ran for 2 hours and 17 minutes, leaving Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 speculated to run between 2 hours and 30 minutes up to 3 hours at most.

It’s no secret that MCU films are bound to get lengthier runtimes as compared to their predecessors, especially when Marvel Studios is gradually stabilizing the existence and concept of the multiverse and interconnectedness of each film with each other.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a bigger premise to fill, not just to eventually take part in the Avengers fighting against Kang the Conqueror, but with the focus on Rocket’s backstory.

Among the rest of the guardians, the least information we have is Rocket’s. While we know he was experimented on like an animal, the threequel has already seemingly mapped out Rocket’s pending doom in the end. A previous report debunked that Rocket may actually live past Vol. 3, with Drax rumored to be THAT guardian character to go, however, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Seeing as back in Infinity War, when he was left alone with Nebula with the rest of his team turning to dust, the gaps have yet to be filled on how he had to cope losing his friends.

Let’s just say when a lengthy Volume 3 is involved, the more heartbreaking it is now more than ever to see the guardians potentially departing from one another.

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to premiere on May 5, 2023.
