Phase 1 of James Gunn's Marvel Cinematic Universe farewell has been completed with the release of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Next year marks the director's final duty in the billion-dollar franchise before shifting his focus and energy full-time to the "new" DC Universe.
Gunn and his DC Studios partner-in-crime Peter Safran have yet to present their long-term plans for the franchise but the Peacemaker director has kept the fans quite engaged thanks to his cryptic social media posts.
Now, it appears that two fan-favorite Guardians could follow Gunn to the DCU now that his time with Marvel is coming to an end. When Gunn made another tease on Twitter about the studio's plans for the franchise, actors Pom Klementieff and Karen Gillan shared their excitement about the director's grand scheme. Of course, it led to speculation that the Mantis and Nebula actors are also bidding the MCU farewell after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Interestingly, when one fan requested Gunn to include Pom in his plans, the DC Studios co-head said that "Pom's always a part of our plans!", pretty much hinting that their working relationship is far from over. Now, we'd like to assume that the same thing can be said about Karen.

It makes sense for characters like Mantis and Nebula to end their MCU tenures next year, especially considering Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks the end of the Guardians. Well, that's what Gunn has been telling fans at least. The idea of them seeking opportunities in the DCU seems probable as well now that James is one of the folks who call the shots.
Meanwhile, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is streaming on Disney+.
