Guardians of the Galaxy Concept Art Reveals Gamora's Original Look

It's hard to imagine anybody other than Zoe Saldana playing Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy. However, there was a time when the character has not yet been cast and artists needed to come up with her look for the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Not surprisingly, the approved concept art for Gamora doesn't look anything like Saldana.

Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park recently shared the concept art from the first Guardians film on Instagram. Check it out below.

"Here's another closeup- This is a concept design of Gamora I did for the 1st Guardians of the Galaxy. Fun fact: this was actually her approved design. Eventually James Gunn changed his mind and decided to go with a simpler look for her face. This was also done before they cast Zoe Saldana. So I just painted a placeholder non-specific face," Park wrote.

It's interesting to note that Gamora almost had more intricate face patterns. On the other hand, it was a good call for Gunn to go for a simpler look to avoid covering up too much of Saldana and allowing her expressions to shine through the prosthetics. In addition to that, it was probably easier to pull off for the makeup department.

Although Gamora has already been killed off in Avengers: Infinity War, the character actually returned in Avengers: Endgame which could mean that the Guardians will be complete once again in the third film. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
