After making The Suicide Squad and its spin-off series Peacemaker for DC, director James Gunn is jumping back to Marvel to helm the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. The film has been in the works for quite some time now, but yesterday, Gunn and the cast members revealed on social media that filming has finally started.
In the photo that they posted, you can see Gunn, returning cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Pom Klementieff, as well as new cast members Will Poulter and Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji doing a group shot together. With Iwuji's presence in the photo, it does confirm his casting on the film which hasn't been announced yet before by Marvel and the filmmakers.
In a follow-up tweet, Gunn eventually confirmed Iwuji's casting. He said, "Chuk has indeed joined the cast. After working with him on #Peacemaker I wasn’t about to let go of one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with - so I gave him the role most every big name actor in Hollywood wanted. #TalentAboveAllElse" However, he didn't reveal the details of the role that he is going to play.
Later on, Iwuji reacted to the news on his Instagram story in which he didn't contain his excitement on joining the film. He wrote, "As an artist you hope to encounter a champion to open doors for you. Thank you @JamesGunn for practically kicking the doors off the hinges. Let's play!!!"
It's nice to hear that Gunn recognized the talent that Iwuji has when he worked with him and, as a result, got him cast to be part of the biggest movie franchise in the world. Because of this, it is exciting now to see his performance in Peacemaker and find out why Gunn said that he is one of the best actors he ever worked with. It also sounds like his role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be a major one. We should be hearing more details soon regarding the role that he is going to play in the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
