It's no secret that DC fans have had a love and hate relationship with Warner Bros. and for close to a decade, they have expressed their dismay over the handling of the DC Extended Universe. To its credit, the franchise has produced some pretty solid projects over the years but the lack of consistency and overall cohesiveness is still an issue that is evident up to this day.

However, the DCEU would receive a much-needed boost when it welcomed James Gunn to the fold and so far, the Marvel filmmaker has been knocking his projects out of the park. Still, despite the franchise getting renewed hope thanks to the success of Peacemaker, there are still fans who believe that Zack Snyder's departure from the franchise did more harm than good.

On Twitter, a fan who supports the #BoycottWB movement made a controversial post comparing Snyder's vision to Gunn's. The account even made a bold claim about the DCEU being unsavable despite the triumph of Peacemaker which is currently the most in-demand series in the world.

The post would catch the attention of the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker who quickly came to the comic book giant's defense, saying that DC doesn't only revolve around one thing. He wrote: "DC is not one thing. A beautiful aspect of comics - & films based on comics - is they can be in any genre & for many ages. Most of us are comfortable seeing a variety of feels in our comics, films & shows."

Despite the obvious genuine positive message Gunn was trying to convey, Snyder cultists took his remark the wrong way and attacked the director following his tweet with some even bringing up his past controversies. Check out some of the reactions here:

Honestly, I don't see the point of pitting Snyder and Gunn against each other because they each bring something unique to the table despite their contrasting styles. And at the of the day, the DCEU's triumph should be celebrated because we've literally been rooting for it to succeed since day one.

Meanwhile, Peacemaker is streaming on HBO Max.
