Though Uru Okabe is a fairly well-known manga artist, it is only now that a work of theirs is getting an anime adaptation. Specifically, Netflix announced an anime adaptation of Okabe’s Good Night World manga.
This upcoming anime was announced via a reveal trailer which featured the show’s stacked voice cast. Plus, it also details the show’s interesting story.
If you watch the trailer, you’ll see that the series’ cast features players of a VR online game.
While this might make it seem like a run-of-the-mill isekai, this is not the case as it has a strong family drama element.
No, Good Night World Isn’t a Typical Isekai
While some isekai titles like KonoSuba feature protagonists that have to die before being reborn into a new world, others like Sword Art Online feature a virtual reality premise.
From the reveal trailer, Good Night World may seem like an SAO-style of anime.
Thankfully for anime fans who are tired of typical isekai titles, this new show will not be a power fantasy for the protagonist.
Instead, the series is more of a drama that follows a cast of characters that become a family in the game.
Specifically, four characters are part of “The Akabane Family” in-game. But in real life, all of them are part of a broken family.
Soon, things take a turn, and their personal lives and their in-game counterparts are entangled.

Good Night World Anime Gets October Netflix Release Date
Aside from the unique story, this upcoming show also features a stacked voice cast, featuring VAs that most anime fans should be familiar with.
The cast includes:

- Nobunaga Shimazaki (Haruka Nanase in Free!) as AAAAA / Asuma Arima
- Akio Otsuka (Rider in Fate/Zero) as Shiro Akabane / Kojiro Arima
- Aya Endo (Shoko Ieri in Jujutsu Kaisen) as May / Sayaka Arima
- Aoi Yuuki (Tatsumaki in One-Punch Man) as Pico
- Ryohei Kimura (Kotaro Bokuto in Haikyuu!!) as Leon
- Hiroki Nanami (Abyss Razor in Mashle) as Sasumata
- Kenjiro Tsuda (Kishibe in Chainsaw Man) as Shigatera
- Rie Takahashi (Megumin in KonoSuba) as Hana Kamuro
- Inori Minase (Rem in Re:Zero) as Aya Arima
As for the studio, this series is being made by NAZ, the studio behind Hajimete no Gal, Hamatora the Animation, and Infinite Dendrogram.
Good Night World is coming to Netflix worldwide on October 12, 2023.
