Netflix Reveals New K-Drama with Squid Games' Gong Yoo


K-drama fans may have to wait a long time before they Squid Game Season 2 arrives on Netflix, but one of the stars from Season 1 will be returning in another show this month. The show will feature astronauts sent on a mission that's not all that it appears, and Squid Game actor Gong Yoo will play a pivotal role in the upcoming k-drama.

In Squid Game, Gong Yoo played the salesman who introduced the main character, Seong Gi-Hun (played by Lee Jung-Jae) to the deadly survival game that offered debt-burdened participants the chance to win 45.6 billion won ($38.6 million USD) and the losers will cost them their lives.

While the 42-year-old actor didn't appear for the majority of the show, only appearing in both the first and last episodes of Season 1, his role is definitely an important one in the Netflix series. Yoo is also famously known for playing the protagonist role in the popular 2016 zombie film, Train to Busan.

Netflix has released various character posters for The Silent Sea, and one of them features Gong Yoo, who will play Han Yoon-jae, the exploration team leader who must carry out a crucial mission with limited information. He puts the safety of his team members above all else and does not refrain from putting himself in jeopardy to do so.

The Silent Sea is set to premiere on Netflix on December 24, 2021.
