Godzilla vs. Kong Gets Major Delay

Godzilla may have beat out King Ghidorah in King of Monsters, but the real clash that Legendary is gearing us up for is Godzilla vs. Kong next year. As it turns out, the movie has just suffered a major delay, and we'll have to wait longer for it to hit theaters.

According to Variety, Godzilla vs. Kong has been pushed from its original March 2020 release date by 8 months. Now the movie is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 20, 2020. No official reason was cited as to why the movie was pushed back, but King of Monsters' underwhelming box office performance could have something to do with it.

Though King of Monsters has made good on its promise to feature more Kaiju-on-Kaiju action, the film was still said to be dragged down by its dull human characters. I guess no amount of Millie Bobby Brown-charisma can save an entire film. Let's hope Brown's new co-stars in the third film will end up more engaging than this last movie.

If you ask me, I actually quite enjoyed King of Monsters. It fixed all the problems I had with the first Godzilla, and it delivered exactly what I expected it to. Though it would be nice if we could get something more profound when it comes to human storytelling, I think the film would have to sacrifice all the major monster fights—and that's what everyone was paying tickets for.

Hopefully, Godzilla vs. Kong manages to make good use of this delay. At least it hasn't been endlessly pushed back like Dark Phoenix or New Mutants. Catch the major Kaiju clash when it hits theaters Nov. 20, 2020.
