Godzilla TV Series Director Reveals Connection to the MonsterVerse Films

Besides the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel that is currently in the works, Legendary Pictures is also working on the Godzilla and the Titans TV series for Apple TV+ which is set to be part of the MonsterVerse as well. Ever since the project's announcement, fans have been wondering about how the series will actually connect to the movies.

Speaking recently with Collider, Matt Shakman, who directed the first 2 episodes of the series, was asked about where the show's timeline will land alongside the movies. However, he didn't give a definitive answer as he claimed that it is part of the show's spoilers.

"You know, I can't really say because that's part of the joy of it is, actually timelines [are] a big part of the storytelling. So I just want to say that's part of it, but I can’t really say more than that," he said.

In a follow-up question, the director was also asked if he had any discussions with the team behind the Godzilla. vs. Kong sequel about how they're to connect. However, he stated that, unlike the MCU, the projects are more self-contained despite being part of the same universe.

"There is some overlap, though we were not heavily involved in talking about it with Adam Wingard and his team. Legendary is the studio for our show, as well as for the films, and so they sort of sit at the juncture there between the two, and they have a mythology department there which is wonderful," Shakman explained.

"So they weigh in on how things might overlap, how certain creatures need to stay on one side or the other, and so there is a lot of conversation about it. But in terms of how closely the narratives overlap, it's not as involved to say, an MCU kind of Disney+ film crossover. It's less organized."

As Legendary Pictures is keeping the plot of their upcoming projects under wraps, there are fans who are wondering about their tie-ins and whether they will have some overlap. However, based on Shakman's comments, it sounds like that is not the case yet.

Nevertheless, it is still exciting to see what they have in store for the future of the MonsterVerse, especially in the Apple TV+ series since it will be their first time to delve into serialized storytelling.
