There is a lot of talk that Godzilla Minus One could be nominated for an Oscar. And when it comes to its visual effects, we believe it rightly deserves to be up on that list.

With this potential Godzilla Minus One Oscar, it certainly makes for a great year for the Japanese kaiju with a couple of Godzilla titles released: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and Godzilla Minus One.

Having been released in the US on December 1, the Toho Company monster continues to break box office records. Adding to this is an Oscar buzz that Godzilla Minus One has been chosen as a finalist for Best Visual Effects from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The report shares that it joins the list of 20 finalists for Best Visual Effects. Some of the titles that are being considered include Barbie, Across the Spider-Verse, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, and many others.

With a total budget of $15 million, avid fans are hoping that Godzilla Minus One will snag a nomination for the 2024 Oscar.

While the Godzilla Minus One Oscar buzz is trending, a parody account has poked fun at the movie.

The parody account on X (formerly Twitter) has joked that the movie was submitted for consideration for a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

A user has satirically responded to this tweet with:

"The second I saw that Godzilla lost all that weight and was roaring with a British accent I knew there would be Oscar buzz."

To clarify, this is a parody account. Godzilla Minus One is not being considered for the Best Actor award.

The movie is also not available in English and Godzilla Minus One is presented with its original Japanese audio track and English subtitles.

When is the 2024 Oscars?

The 96th Academy Awards is set to take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA on March 10, 2024.

As shared by a fan, the campaigning for Godzilla Minus One to be a finalist for nomination starts today.

To be clear, Godzilla Minus One has not yet been nominated for a Best Visual Effects Oscar. But it is one of the 20 movies that are up for grabs for the award.

Godzilla Minus One Headed to the Oscars

On December 7, 2023, the official list of nominees were announced. Godzilla Minus One is among the films included in the top 20 finalists for Best Visual Effects.

Godzilla Minus One's nomination doesn't come as a surprise. After all, it already grossed around $51 million globally.

In domestic theaters, the film earned $25 million. Meanwhile, in overseas markets, it was able to earn $26 million (of which $23 million comes from Japan).

Because of the positive response, the film has been expanded to continue its theatrical run at least until December 14th.
