Henry Cavill's reign as the DC Universe's Superman came to an abrupt and heartbreaking conclusion when James Gunn officially confirmed that the new DCU will be taking a different direction moving forward. This time around, no amount of fan-driven movements will influence Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran's collection decision which is why some have come to accept that Cavill won't be returning to don his red cape.

Despite the shocking news, Superman's future in the new DCU is still incredibly bright and Gunn himself is currently working on a new film that focuses on a much younger Clark Kent. It turns out that fans already have their top pick to become the next Kryptonian hero and the name David Corenswet has been reverberating for a number of weeks now.

Instagram artist @jscomicart recently unveiled an amazing fan image depicting the 29-year-old as the new DCU's Man of Steel. Instead of giving him the modernized Superman suit used in the franchise, the artist went with a look that closely resembles Max Fleischer's original comic book design for the character and I gotta say, the Silver Age look is doing it for me. I can't be denied that Corenswet does look the part but he could totally use some time in the gym to get into that superhero shape. If Gunn really wants to make good on his promise of putting the fans first, then his first order of business is to listen to their fan-casting calls. I mean, even Kevin Feige did it with John Krasinski as Mister Fantastic so this one shouldn't be that hard.

Meanwhile, in other DCU news, the franchise's next film Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.
