2022 sent major shockwaves to the DC Universe courtesy of James Gunn and Peter Safran that would pretty much change the entire landscape of the franchise forever. One of them is the shocking confirmation that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman despite the fact that he made a cameo appearance in Black Adam and announced his grand return on social media.
Now, while some folks are still mourning Cavill's shocking DCU departure, others have come to accept the actor's unfortunate fate and are ready to embrace the franchise's future without him as its symbol of hope. In fact, fans may have already found the actor's perfect successor and it's someone who fits Gunn's vision for the character in the franchise they're rebuilding.
Up-and-coming star David Corenswet has become a prime candidate amongst fans to play Clark Kent in the Superman reboot Gunn is currently writing. There's a good chance you may not have heard of the actor's name before as he's only appeared in a handful of projects, most notably Netflix's House of Cards, The Politician, and Hollywood.
The 29-year-old definitely looks the part and it's no wonder the DCU fandom has begun campaigning for him to get cast in Gunn's project. What do you think? Check out some of the reactions below:
As it stands, key details about the Superman project Gunn is working on remain under wraps but the DC Studios co-head confirmed that it will explore Clark's early days in the Daily Planet instead of it being an origin story.
Meanwhile, in other DCU news, the franchise's next film Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.
